Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
